Ljubljana, 11 March 2020 

The Minister of Health, Aleš Šabeder, announced that the Order on the conditions of entry into the Republic of Slovenia from the Italian Republic to prevent the spread of infectious disease entered into force at 6 p.m. on 11.3.2020.

This order establishes the conditions of entry into Slovenian territory from Italy in order to prevent the spread of the infectious disease SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19).

Six checkpoints will be established in the border area at road links with Italy, namely: Rateče, Robič, Vrtojba, Fernetiči, Škofije and Krvavi potok.

Road operators will ensure that appropriate traffic signs are set up at the checkpoints and that all other road connections with Italy are blocked.

Passenger train traffic between Italy and Slovenia has been suspended.

Entry into the Republic of Slovenia will be allowed for any individual who is not a Slovenian citizen or who does not have registered permanent or temporary residence in the Republic of Slovenia, if he/she submits proof in Slovenian, English or Italian that is not more than three days old that a molecular laboratory test has been carried out for the presence of SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19), showing negative results for SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19).

If an individual fails to submit the proof referred to in the preceding paragraph, he/she will still be allowed to enter the Republic of Slovenia if his/her body temperature is below 37.5 °C and they show no clear signs of upper respiratory tract infection (cough, sneezing, shortness of breath).

This order does not apply to citizens of the Republic of Slovenia, persons with permanent or temporary residence in the Republic of Slovenia and freight traffic.

This order is being implemented by health professionals and the Civil Protection Service of the Republic of Slovenia, with the assistance of the Police. Police teams are already in place at all six checkpoints, health professionals are standing ready at five checkpoints while the remotest checkpoint will have a team in place shortly.
